Tuesday 6th May

U13 Boys Div 2
Abbeyfeale Utd 3-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Our lads were very unlucky on Tuesday evening, narrowly losing 3-2 away to a strong Abbeyfeale side.
They finish the season with plenty to be proud of. Brian, Willie, and Denis all agree that this team have shown tremendous improvement this year. There’s no doubt they will carry that momentum into next season, hit the ground running, and compete strongly in every competition.
They are a credit to themselves and their parents, and the management team truly enjoyed working with, and having a laugh with each and every one of them.
Wishing them all a fantastic summer.

Weekly Observer Division Three League Cup Final
Askeaton/Kilcornan B 2-3 Abbeyfeale Utd B
(HT 1-0)
Pete Harty 38’ (Assist Patrick Ivess)
Patrick Ivess 66’
In a thrilling Division Three League Cup Final clash between the top two sides we were narrowly edged out 3-2 by Abbeyfeale United B in a high-intensity contest that lived up to its billing.
The game sparked into life in the 38th minute when Patrick Ivess delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, met superbly by Pete Harty who expertly guided a back-header into the net to give us the lead. We took that slender 1-0 advantage into the break.
At half-time Brendan McCarthy came on to replace Arron McCarthy as we looked to solidify our control. However, Abbeyfeale started the second half strongly, finding an equaliser early on before striking twice in quick succession, netting goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes to turn the game on its head.
But we responded immediately. Straight from the restart, Patrick showcased his quality with a stunning long-range strike from the centre of the pitch that sailed over the Abbeyfeale keeper to reduce the deficit to one.
With the momentum swinging, we made further changes, introducing Sambulo Ngubane, Paudie Ivess, and Davie Dolan for Finn O’Gorman, Pete Harty, and Conor Conway as we pushed relentlessly for an equaliser. Despite our efforts and a spirited final push, the breakthrough never came.
Although the silverware slipped away, we can hold our heads high after a fantastic season that saw us secure promotion just last week. It was a season full of heart, determination and no shortage of quality.

Sunday 11th May

Weekly Observer Division One
Dromore Utd 1-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
(HT 1-1)
Kenneth O’Donoghue 41’ (Assist Sam Duggan)
We earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against league winners Dromore United, keeping our promotion hopes alive heading into the final game.
Coming into this game, we knew that a result was essential to stay in contention for promotion. Facing an unbeaten Dromore side was always going to be a stern test, and the home team struck first, taking the lead in the 12th minute.
Chances were limited in a tightly contested first half, but we responded well. On 41 minutes, Sam Duggan set up Kenneth O’Donoghue, who unleashed a long-range strike that beat the Dromore keeper to level the game before the break.
The second half mirrored the first in intensity, with both sides pushing for a winner. Despite a number of free kicks and half-chances, neither team could find the breakthrough, and the match ended 1-1.
The focus now turns to our final league game next week against Knockaderry. A win there will secure promotion – all to play for!
