In a thrilling U14 Girls Cup match, we narrowly lost 2-1 to GB Rovers after extra time. Jess put us in the lead in the first half, but GB Rovers equalized leaving the score 1-1 at full time. The match went into extra time, where the final moments saw a fantastic save from our goalkeeper with the ball going out for a corner. GB Rovers capitalized, scoring directly from the corner to secure the victory.
Tuesday 1st April
U13 Boys Division 2
Dromore Utd 1-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
We were disappointed on Tuesday night as our U13s drew 1-1 against a much-improved Dromore team in Pallaskenry. We found it tough to hold on to our 1-0 lead, but we battled hard, and every player gave their all on the field. Unfortunately, just 5 minutes before the referee blew the final whistle we conceded. But it’s all eyes on the cup game Saturday, so we march on!
Thursday 3rd April
U16 Girls Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 4-1 Shountrade
(HT 2-1)
Two powerful strikes from Caoimhe and Macey gave us a two-goal lead with some great football. However, a lapse in concentration for about ten minutes allowed the visitors to pull one back. At halftime, we made a few changes to give everyone some game time. We tightened up defensively and took control, scoring twice – once from Hailey and another from a great cross by Danielle, which deflected in. It was a solid team performance overall, with real determination to secure the win. Player of the Match was tough to decide, as everyone contributed, but Siofra kept things solid at the back throughout, so she gets the vote.
Desmond Youths Cup Quarter Final
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC 6-0 Kilcolman Rovers
Zach Birdthistle 5’ 8’ 22’
Conor McNamara 6’
Sambulo Ngubane 36’ (Assist Zach Birdthistle)
Jamie Sheehan 40’
We put on a clinical display to secure a dominant 6-0 victory over Kilcolman Rovers in the Desmond Youths Cup quarter-final, with all six goals coming in the first-half.
The scoring started early when Zach Birdthistle capitalized on a defensive blunder between the Kilcolman keeper and defender. Just a minute later, Conor McNamara extended the lead to 2-0. Zach then grabbed his second in the 8th minute, finding the net with a well-timed header from a corner kick. He then completed his hat-trick in the 22nd minute, finishing with composure to make it 4-0. Sambulo Ngubane added a fifth goal in the 36th minute, tucking the ball into the bottom corner after a precise assist from Zach. We rounded off the first half when Jamie Sheehan slotted home a well-placed shot to make it 6-0 at the break.
In the second half, Kilcolman pressed harder and created a few chances but they were unable to find the back of the net and despite this half seeing no goals the game was already decided.
We move on to the semi-finals next Thursday evening against Dromore Utd.
Saturday 5th April

U9 Boys
Askeaton/Kilcornan v Shountrade
Super games on Saturday morning in the sunshine. We played some great football and scored some great goals.
Well done to all

U11 Boys Blitz
Venue: Breska Rovers, Clarina
We had a blitz on Saturday with two games against Breska Rovers. In the first game Mike Mulvihill delivered a man of the match performance, scoring a screamer, a goal-line clearance and a goal-saving tackle. Ruairi Flanagan also had an impressive showing with a goal and another excellent shot.
The second game was an exciting one, with everything you could ask for. It finished level with Mike Mulvihill scoring twice, Gavin Anglim adding two goals, and Ruairi Flanagan chipping in with another.
All 8 players gave their all. Well done to everyone for the incredible team performance, each player truly deserved to be named man of the match.
U12 Girls Cup Quarter Final
Newcastle West Town 2-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
We faced off against Newcastle West in a highly anticipated U12 Girls Cup Quarter Final. Both teams are tied at the top of the league, making it clear this would be a competitive and hard-fought match.
Newcastle West took the lead with a goal in the first half. The second half saw a similar scenario as the home side capitalized on a soft goal to extend their lead to 2-0. Despite this setback our girls gave it their all, refusing to give up. With about 10 minutes left we scored a goal, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, time ran out and the match finished 2-1 in favor of Newcastle West. Although we are disappointed to be out of the Cup, attention now turns back to the league where we are still sitting joint top with two games remaining.

U13 Boys Cup First Round
Shountrade 2-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan
A great result in the cup away to Shountrade, coming away with a 4-2 win.
Going up 1 nil in the first half with a goal from Danny Anglim, later Shountrade pulled a goal back before the half.
Second half the home side took the lead and were much better for large parts, another goal from Danny took us to extra time. It was end to end in extra time but we fought hard and every lad that played done the club so proud.
We got another goal and after much pressure in our own half a kick out found its way to Danny again and he made it his fourth for the day.
We march on to the quarter finals now and hopefully more results will give the boys the year they deserve.
U16 Girls Div 2
Shannonside 4-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Caoimhe Gammell
The girls suffered a 4-1 loss to Shannonside on Saturday morning but their effort cannot be faulted. A lapse in concentration saw us go 2 goals down within the first 10 minutes and by halftime, we were trailing 4-0. After making a few changes during the break the girls fought back and scored a goal, we were well on top in the second half and showed great determination until the final whistle. It’s tough to single out a player, but Hailey Ashton earns player of the game for her excellent performance on the right wing.

Weekly Observer Division Three
Abbeyfeale Utd B 0-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan B
(HT 0-1)
Pete Harty 1’ 53’
We secured a vital 2-0 victory over Abbeyfeale Utd B in a hard-fought match, with a goal in each half proving enough to claim all three points.
The game couldn’t have started any better for us as Pete Harty put us 1-0 up within the opening seconds. His early strike caught the Abbeyfeale defense off guard and set the tone for a well-contested encounter. Despite Abbeyfeale’s best efforts, the home side couldn’t break down our solid defense and the first half ended with the us holding a narrow 1-0 lead.
The second half saw early changes with James O’Shaughnessy making way for David Holland. In the 53rd minute we were awarded a penalty after Pete was fouled in the box. Without hesitation, Pete stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to give us a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
Abbeyfeale continued to push for a goal, with a couple of decent chances falling their way, but our defense remained resolute. In the 68th minute, Paudie Ivess came on for Conor Pledge, and in the 82nd minute, Padhraic McMahon replaced the ever-dangerous Pete who had played a key role in our win.
Despite Abbeyfeale’s late pressure we held firm, ensuring a well-deserved 2-0 victory and all three points.
Team: Jamie Dolan, Stephen Maune, Conor Conway, Anthony Cregan, Joe Barrett, Arron McCarthy, Patrick Ivess, Conor Pledge, Jamie O’ Sullivan, James O’ Shaughnessy, Pete Harty, Padhraic McMahon, David Holland, Paudie Ivess.

Weekly Observer Division One
Granagh Utd 0-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
(HT 0-0)
Kenneth O’ Donoghue 60’ (Assist Sean Whelan)
Alan Ryan 64’ (Assist Stephen Smith)
Tomás Sheahan 70’
Thomas McCarthy 75’ (Assist Evan Costello)
We came away with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Granagh Utd with all four goals coming in a dominant second-half performance.
The first half saw both teams create a few chances but ultimately failed to break the deadlock. Granagh had moments of pressure but our defense held firm keeping it 0-0 at the break.
A change at half-time saw Stephen Smith replace Matt Moane, and it was Stephen that helped spark us into life in the second period. On 60 minutes, a run from Sean Whelan saw him weave his way into the box before squaring for Kenneth O’Donoghue, who made no mistake in converting the ball into the net to give us the lead. Just four minutes later, in the 64th minute, another set-piece doubled our advantage. A corner from Stephen found Alan Ryan and he made no error in heading home.
By the 70th minute we were in control. Tomás Sheahan unleashed a stunning long-range strike that flew into the net to make it 3-0.
The substitutions continued, with Diarmaid O’ Connor coming on for Sam Duggan in the 71st minute, and on the 75th, Thomas McCarthy and Colm O’ Flaherty replaced Kenneth and Sean. Within seconds of coming on Thomas latched onto a perfectly timed through ball from Evan Costello and calmly slotted it past the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.
