Tuesday 2nd September

U13 Boys Div 2
Breska Rovers 1-3 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Our U13 boys team got their season off to a winning start on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 win away to Breska Rovers. We were under the cosh in the first half against a strong Breska team, but the team defended brilliantly from the front to the back and kept them at bay. Our first shot on goal, a volley from Laura O’Driscoll straight from a corner after about 20 minutes, put us 1-0 up, before a long-range effort from Harry Biggane late in the half meant we went into the break with a 2-0 lead. We grew into the game even more in the second half and were the better team for large parts of it, creating several good chances, before eventually making it count with a cool finish from Eoghan Kelly to put us 3-0 up with about 10 minutes left. Breska tried hard to get back into it but our team, supported by brilliant performances from all the substitutes, didn’t give them an inch. Breska did eventually pull a goal back a few minutes from the end, but we weren’t to be denied a hard-fought but well deserved win.
Players: Oisin O’Connor, Conor Sheahan, Luke Mungovan, Paddy Nealon, Reon George, Mike Mulvihill, Laura O’Driscoll, Harry Biggane, Kayden Delahunty, Josh O’Donoghue, Eoghan Kelly, Ruairi Flanagan, Sean Anglim, Mya Kelly.

Saturday 6th September

U12 Girls Div 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 4-1 Ballingarry
Mia O’Shaughnessy (3)
Kate O’Driscoll
Our U12 girls got off to a flyer on Saturday morning in breezy conditions at home against Ballingarry in the league. Despite a strong start and creating plenty of chances, we were still level at 0–0 after 15 minutes, playing with a stiff breeze. It seemed like the breakthrough might never come, but our persistence finally paid off, and we broke the deadlock!
We went into half-time 3–0 up after a dominant spell. With a few changes made and now playing into the wind against a determined Ballingarry side, we knew the second half would be a challenge.
But the girls dug deep, fought hard, and played brilliantly in what was our first game back. The match ended 4–1, with Mia scoring a hat-trick and Kate adding the other.

U14 Girls Div 1
Broadford Utd A 0-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
The girls got their league campaign off to a flyer with a hard fought 1-0 win over a really good Broadford side.
This was an extremely tight game with both defences working very hard in the opening half. Broadford had the wind in the first half so it was very important for the girls to hold out til half time.
The girls really settled into the game 2nd half, our goalkeeper Mya Kelly and our defence not giving Broadford any chances. It was going to take something special to unlock this tight Broadford back 4 and something special we got, midway through 2nd half, Samantha Maune with sublime chip pass over the top to Cailín Purtill who took a touch to steady herself and rifled the ball into the top corner of the net.
Absolutely fantastic performance from the whole squad 1 to 15. 3 points on the board and a clean sheet.
Team: Mya kelly, Laoise Daly,Zoey Hallinan, Orla Murphy, Katie Ivess, Danielle Prendeville, Laura O Driscoll, Rachael Harty Maune, Samantha Maune, Cailín Purtill, Ellen Costello, Lydia Collopy, Allie Fitzsimons, Michaela Twohig.

U15 Boys Div 2
Glantine 2-3 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Dylan Sheehan (2)
Adam Ruttle
Super performance by the lads and a great start to the season winning all 3 points. Played some great football and everyone gave everything for the team.

U16 Girls Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 0-4 Shountrade
(HT 0-0)
With the weather playing its part, the game was a tale of two halves. We dominated the first half, creating at least six clear chances but just couldn’t get the final shot away. On another day, we could have gone in at halftime with a comfortable lead.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. Shountrade came out strong in the second half and scored four well-taken goals. Despite the result, the effort and hard work from our girls throughout the entire match was fantastic.
Girl of the Match was Sophie O’Brien, who was outstanding at centre-half.
Also, a big well done to Siobhra and Aoibhe, our new assistant coaches, making their debut on the sideline, brilliant job!

Youths Division 1
Breska Rovers 4-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
Sam Costello 12’ (Assist Dylan Madigan)
Matthew Kehoe 25’(Assist Dylan Madigan)
Sam Costello 29’ (Assist Shane Collins)
Shane Collins 69’ (Assist Sam Costello)
The lads will be a bit disappointed after leading right up until the final minute, when Breska scored an equaliser to make it 4-4.
However, coming away with a point from such a high-scoring game is still a positive result.

Sunday 7th September

Premier Division League Cup Group B
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC 2-0 Dromore Utd
Patrick Ivess 28’ (Assist Kenneth O’Donoghue)
Own Goal 76’
In a game played under a mix of rain and sunshine, we came away with a solid 2-0 victory over Dromore. The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Patrick slotted home the opener, finishing well after being set up by Ken. Both sides created chances as the game progressed, but it was a late own goal, following an unfortunate pass back to the Dromore keeper that sealed the result. A strong team performance and a well-deserved clean sheet capped off a good start to the season.

Division 2 League Cup Group B
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC B 0-1 Shountrade AFC
In a closely contested game, both sides created chances in an open first half. It was Shountrade who broke the deadlock, finding the net in the 38th minute to take a narrow lead into the break.
We made several changes in the second half and pushed hard for an equaliser, creating numerous opportunities but just couldn’t convert our chances.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, there’s no doubt we’ll settle well into Division Two as the season progresses.
