Monday 27th April

U16 Girls Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 5-0 GB Rovers
(HT 1-0)
What a way to finish our U16 season, a five-star performance from the girls. Goals from Xixi, Jessie, Danielle, Sam and Rachel sealed a fantastic win. We edged the first half, with Xixi’s strike giving us a 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, all our hard work paid off. We dominated the game across the pitch, with our defence staying sharp and denying GB any real chances. The midfield controlled possession brilliantly, linking up well with the forwards, and GB simply couldn’t get the ball off us. Our girls were rewarded with four more excellent goals to cap off a superb display.
A joy to watch the team play with such confidence and cohesion. Player of the Match goes to Xixi once again, a true leader on the pitch.
After losing our first five matches, the team showed great character to win three of our last five games, real progress and something to be proud of.
A big thank you to all the squad, and especially to those moving on due to age, we wish you all the best in whatever comes next and hope to see you continue playing, whether at U19 or with a future ladies team.
Thanks as well to the fantastic parents and guardians for your support throughout the year, it’s been greatly appreciated. We’ll keep in touch, and enjoy the summer break!

Tuesday 28th April

U13 Boys Div 2
Carrig Cel 1-3 Askeaton/Kilcornan
The U13 Boys team had a fantastic 3-1 win away to Carrig Celtic in the league, a result that made it three wins on the bounce for us and took us above our opponents into second place in the table.
Under the cosh for the opening five minutes, we slowly got a foot-hold in the game and had the better of the rest of the first half, deservedly going into the break 1-0 up after a close range strike from Eoghan Kelly after twenty minutes.
We continued this form after the break, with Eoghan scoring a fine second to put us 2-0 up five minutes into the second half. Credit to Carrig Celtic who battled back to make it 2-1 five minutes later. Their tails were up after that but our team kept their heads and continued to play, and were rewarded not long afterwards when Gavin Anglim was brought down in the box to win us a penalty, which was duly dispatched by Harry Biggane to restore our two-goal lead.
Carrig Celtic threw everything at us after that, but were denied by a combination of the woodwork, some fine saves by goalkeeper Oisin O’Connor, and some last-ditch defending.
The attitude and work rate of the full squad this evening was outstanding, and we will look to take this forward now into the remaining three league games and see where it takes us.
Squad:
Oisín O’Connor, Gavin Anglim, Conor Sheahan, Paddy Nealon, Sean Anglim, Laura O’Driscoll, Mohammad Ibrahim, Harry Biggane (1), Kayden Delahunty, Josh O’Donoghue, Eoghan Kelly (2), Tommy Hennessy, Mike Mulvihill, Reon George, Ruairi Flanagan.

Cois Sionna Desmond Credit Union Division Two
Askeaton/Kilcornan B 3-4 Breska Rovers B
(HT 2-1)
5’ Matthew Kehoe (Assist Rob Carrig)
34’ Rob Carrig
87’ Paudie Ivess (Assist Rob Carrig)
We made a blistering start, taking the lead after just five minutes when young Matthew Kehoe finished well. Breska levelled from the penalty spot around the half-hour mark, but we responded almost immediately, with Rob Carrig restoring our advantage directly from a corner. We went in at the break 2-1 up.
Breska drew level in the 74th minute with a free kick and then went ahead just a minute later with another effort from a similar position. Substitute Paudie Ivess brought us back into the game in the 87th minute with a goal from Rob’s free kick. Just as it looked like we might come away with a point, Breska were awarded a late penalty and converted to take all three.
Overall, it was a strong performance from a mix of youth and experience. We were unfortunate not to come away with more, but costly decisions from frees and penalties ultimately went against us.

Saturday 2nd May

U14 Boys Cup Quarter Final
Kilcolman Rvs 3-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Michael O’Shaughnessy
Dylan O’Connor
We exited the cup after a 3-2 loss away to Kilcolman. The home side opened the scoring from a free kick before they doubled their lead with a header from a rebound following a free kick. We pulled a goal back from a Dylan O’Connor penalty to leave one goal in it at half time. Into the second half and we got on level terms when Michael O’Shaughnessy got enough space to fire home the equalizer. Unfortunately Kilcolman scored in the last minute of the match to see them through to the next round.

U16 Boys Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-1 GB Rovers
GB Rovers started well and opened the scoring after five minutes. We began to come more into the game with our central midfield partnership of Eoin McNamara and Darragh O’Shaughnessy dominating possession and Tom Harty also working hard. We had a goal from Adam O’Driscoll disallowed for offside, however, we equalised with a goal from Billy Rimmer after great work from Mark McDonagh to leave the score 1-1 at half time.
We started the second half well and were unlucky not to go ahead when a shot by Adam O’Driscoll struck the crossbar and a header from Cathal Daly was blocked by a GB defender. We went ahead with a goal from Darragh O’Shaughnessy after he followed up after a save from the GB goalkeeper. GB put on a lot of pressure for the last few minutes but our defence of Cathal Daly, Dylan Sheehan, Dion Harty and Mark O’Driscoll along with goalkeeper Luca Zoncada held firm. A great team performance by everyone on the day.

U13 Girls Div 1
GB Rovers 0-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan
The U13 girls produced another outstanding performance away to GB Rovers, securing a vital victory that keeps their incredible season alive and books a playoff clash with Broadford next week. Knowing that nothing less than a win would do, the girls rose to the challenge in style with a commanding 4-0 triumph.
From the opening whistle, our girls controlled possession and dictated the tempo, though early chances went begging in the first ten minutes. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 13th minute when Laura O’Driscoll delivered a superb defence-splitting pass to Mia, who kept her composure brilliantly to slot the ball into the bottom left corner.
Just two minutes later, the lead was doubled. Once again, Laura was the creator, producing another perfectly weighted pass that found Cailin, who finished confidently to make it 2-0.
With the team firmly in control, positional changes were introduced, and both Aoibhinn Ryan and Sophie Ivess stepped onto the field and made a huge impact with tremendous work rates for the remainder of the game. Well done girls.
As half-time approached, Mia grabbed her second goal of the evening following great work from Aoibhinn, sending the girls into the break with a deserved 3-0 advantage.
The second half saw the midfield dominate proceedings, with a number of near misses and offside calls denying the girls further goals early on. The fourth and final goal arrived in the 40th minute when Mia produced a dazzling run through the GB Rovers defence before unselfishly laying the ball off to Allie, who calmly finished one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
It was another fantastic team performance from a side that remains unbeaten this season and now looks forward to both a league playoff and a cup final in the coming weeks.
A huge well done to all the girls — ye are a credit to your club, your teammates, and yourselves. Keep up the hard work and perseverance.
Teamsheet: Mya Kelly, Evie Harty-Maune, Zoe Ivess, Orla Murphy, Lucy Duggan Maune, Laura O’Driscoll, Kate O’Driscoll, Amy Kenrick, Allie Fitzsimons, Cailín Purtill, Mia O’Shaughnessy, Aoibhinn Ryan, Sophie Ivess

U15 Boys Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-2 Glantine
A tight game on Thursday evening saw us take the lead through Billy Rimmer but long range efforts for Glantine had them 2-1 up at the break. Tom Harty snatched an equaliser with ten minutes remaining. A fair result on the balance of play.

Friday 8th May

U15 Girls Cup Semi Finals
Broadford Utd 5-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Hailey Ashton
We made the trip to Broadford on Friday night and, to be fair, we had no excuses, we were beaten by the better team on the night. We started quite well, but Broadford took the lead after 20 minutes. We responded immediately when Hailey finished off some good work from Sam to make it 1-1. However, Broadford found a second goal before half-time to go in 2-1 ahead.
The second half was evenly contested for the first 25 minutes, but once the third goal went in, unfortunately for Mya, who had made some great saves beforehand, the game became much more difficult. In the last five minutes we succumbed to two more goals. The scoreline probably flattered the home side a little, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
Next year this group will move up to U16s and, with a full squad available, we should have a good season ahead.
Girl of the Match for us was Sorcha, with another gutsy performance.

Saturday 9th May

U12 Girls Div 1
Ballingarry 2-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
We traveled to Ballingarry for the early kick off on Saturday morning where the girls unfortunately came out the wrong side in a 2-1 loss with the game in the balance until the very end. Evie Harty Maune scoring our goal assisted by Aimee Quirke.
