Weekly Observer Desmond Cup 1st Round
Glantine 1-3 Askeaton AFC
Caolan Rushe ⚽
Jeff Duggan ⚽
Niall Barry ⚽
We started the game the better team passing the ball very well, Kieran had a great strike that the keeper saved onto the post but against the run of play Glantine scored a lovely goal. Credit to the lads we kept playing our game. Caolan pulled a goal back for us. We went in half time 1-1.
Took us a while to get the flow going again in the second half, Jeff came nearest with a great header, hit the cross bar from a super delivery from Matt who ran his socks off up and down the wing. We did create a lot of chances but unlucky. Shane, Niall and Jeff denied by the keeper so after 90 minutes the game stayed level.
Extra time was needed, we continued creating chances with Sam running the show in midfield who I thought was man of the match. Jeff got the goal we deserved when he got the ball at the right side of the box and drilled a low ball into the left corner. We didn’t sit back, kept up the pressure and it paid off as Jeff put Niall one v one with the keeper. There was no stopping him this time as he slotted it home.
It was a credit to everyone who played on Saturday evening, all played very well. On to the next round we go, hopefully we can get a good run in it this year.
Team: Killian Fitzgerald, Cormac O’ Keeffe, Caolan Rushe, Colum Sweeney, Mark Murphy, Sam Duggan, Matt Moane, Shane Long, Niall Barry, Jeff Duggan, Kieran Walsh.
