Monday 6th November
FAI Junior Cup 3rd Round
Newcastle West Town 1-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC (aet)
Kenneth O’ Donoghue (pen)
A super win for the A team in wet conditions on Monday night as we continued a solid run in the FAI junior cup. Newcastle had requested a fixture change to Clounreask and with our lads having just played Dromore the previous week we all agreed to proposed change. Newcastle are a fine team and played a great brand of football throughout the 110 minutes that we had to play in the end. However our lads matched them in every department from work rate, intensity and played some excellent football. Using the large pitch to our advantage, we stretched NCW with our full backs and wingers and gained early dominance in the middle with our central players. Both teams created opportunities in the first half, but we went in at half time with the more clear cut chances and felt very positive about our foothold in the game. Newcastle started stronger in the second half and took advantage with a well taken goal from well outside the box to the bottom right hand corner leaving Paudie Ivess no chance. Our lads showed the character we have seen all preseason again with an immediate response. Another excellent delivery in from Sam Duggan saw the tireless Sean Whelan get on the end of it and guide it home. As the rain came bucketing down, we headed into extra time with tired but determined legs. We started to really dominate the battle in midfield with some fresh legs from the bench as Sam Duggan made another tireless run into the NCW box, he was dragged down for a penalty. Ken O’Donoghue continued his run of goals and dispatched it to the bottom left hand corner of the Newcastle net. Our lads continued to cover every last bit of grass in Clounreask for the final minutes of extra time and a huge roar was heard from the stands and supporters as the final whistle sounded. A real squad performance that showcased the value of their efforts at training on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Onto the 4th round.

Saturday 11th November
Askeaton/Kilcornan v Granagh
A great turnout on Saturday and two great games played with plenty of goals.
Askeaton/Kilcornan v Abbeyfeale Utd
Another super performance, great teamwork & really impressive work rate all over the pitch! Well done girls.
U14 Boys National Cup Round 3
Ballyhar Dynamos v Askeaton/Kilcornan
The boys unfortunately came up against a stronger Ballyhar side. The lads battled and worked hard but the stronger side prevailed. We did better afterward as we were well minded with plenty of food provided by the home side, which softened the result and made the drive home easier. Fair play to the lads, great battling.
U16 Boys National Cup Round 3 Askeaton/Kilcornan v Aisling Annacotty (off)
U12 Boys Div 4
Ballingarry B v Askeaton/Kilcornan B (off)
U14 Girls Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-2 Shannonside
This was a most enjoyable and exciting game from beginning to end. Lily Bishop opened the scoring for us early in the first half followed by a Shannonside equaliser coming up to halftime. Early in the second half the visitors went ahead which was followed by sustained pressure from our team but we just couldn’t grab that equaliser. With time running out we were awarded a clear penalty which captain Ellie May Kelly skilfully dispatched into the corner of the net. 2 all draw in a game where all gave of their best.
Sunday 12th November
U12 Boys National Trophy Round 2
Avenue Utd B 2-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Dylan O Connor our goal scorer with a super free kick in the top corner. We played a huge Avenue squad on Sunday. It was 0-0 at half time. Unfortunately came out the wrong side of a 2-1 result. I can honestly say that we were the better for a lot of the game but Avenue brought on some very good players in the second half and just pipped it. This team is only getting better week on week. The coaches are extremely proud of the effort and the way we represented the club. Thanks to the parents and support that made the trip to Ennis.
Weekly Observer Division One
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC 2-0 Rathkeale B
Cathal Downes (2)
We created plenty of chances in the opening half but couldn’t break the deadlock. Cathal Downes eventually scored an individual goal to help us into a 1-0 halftime lead.
Cathal got on the end of a free kick to double our lead and secure three points
Weekly Observer Division Three
Dromore Utd B 3-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan B
Tyrique Harte (3)
Great result here for the B team against local rivals Dromore Utd. Dromore were first on the scoresheet and followed shortly afterwards with their second goal. We pulled one back through Tyrique Harte before the break.
Tyrique scored again to bring it back to 2-2 in the second half before Dromore once again took the lead. To complete his hat-trick Tyrique scored yet again. With the scoreline at 3-3 we thought we would be sharing the points. In the last two minutes of play we were awarded a free which was well taken by player/manager James O’ Shaughnessy with the ball finding Mick Boyce who hit the back of the net to claim all three points.
Congratulations to Samantha Maune who was selected for the Desmond U12 girls interleague squad for the 23/24 season. Well deserved, wishing you all the best in the season ahead.
