U12 Girls Div 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 4-2 Rathkeale
Our U12s took to the field on Saturday in very windy conditions in Kilcornan against a determined Rathkeale side. Playing into a strong breeze in the first half, we were slow to start once again and conceded an early goal. However, we gradually grew into the game, although Rathkeale gave us nothing easy.
After a few half chances, we finally found the net. Some great work in midfield led to a quick break, and Mia finished well to score her first and level the game at 1–1. Rathkeale responded strongly and, despite some solid defending, a loose ball in the box was struck home to put us behind again.
Fresh legs were introduced and made an immediate impact. Following some lovely passing, Kate found the net just before half-time to bring us back level.
We knew the second half would be tough, but this time we had the strong breeze in our favour, and it made a huge difference. We looked far more composed on the ball and held our shape much better. Our defenders stood firm, keeping Rathkeale at bay, while midfield supplied some excellent passes for Mia to score two more midway through the half.
From there, the girls managed the game superbly, denying Rathkeale any clear chances despite their continued pressure right to the final whistle. The game finished 4–2, and the girls delivered the Christmas win the coaches were hoping for.
Well done girls, and enjoy your Christmas!

U14 Girls Div 1
Shannonside 2-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Fitzsimons with the brace as U14 girls stay in the title hunt
Our U14 girls kept their title-chasing hopes alive with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against rivals and neighbours Shannonside in Shanagolden on Saturday morning.
Games between these two teams are always titanic battles, and this morning was no different.
Shannonside struck first, taking the lead just five minutes into the game. An early goal like that can sometimes knock a teams confidence, but not this group of girls. They responded superbly, pushing forward in search of an equaliser.
That equaliser arrived after around 20 minutes. Samantha Maune delivered a fine cross into the box, where Allie Fitzsimons controlled well and fired a shot that was brilliantly saved by Mollie Finnerty. However, Allie reacted quickest, smashing the rebound into the roof of the net to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Our girls started the second half brightly, creating several good chances, and midway through the half they took a deserved lead. Rachel Harty Maune went on a powerful run straight through the middle, beating three defenders before laying the ball off to Allie Fitzsimons, who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to complete her brace.
Unfortunately, Shannonside found an equaliser with about five minutes remaining, and nearly snatched a winner with the last kick of the game, only to be denied by a wonderful save from Mya Kelly in goals.
A superb game of football from both teams.
After the match, the girls met up in Centra in Askeaton to enjoy a well-earned hot chocolate.
Happy Christmas to the girls and their families, enjoy the break and we’ll see ye all in the New Year.
Squad on the day: Mya Kelly, Laoise Daly, Zoey Hallinan, Sorcha Cregan, Orla Murphy, Allie Fitzsimons, Rachel Harty Maune, Lydia Collopy, Katie Ivess, Samantha Maune, Cailín Purtill, Ellen Costello, Annabelle Whelan.

U16 Girls Div 2
Breska Rovers 2-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
We travelled to Breska on Saturday, having suffered a heavy defeat there just a month ago. This time, however, it was a completely different story.
Breskas victory came only through two long-range shots, one in each half, but our girls put in a tremendous performance. They played brilliantly as a unit, worked tirelessly for each other, and never stopped running. The defensive effort was outstanding, from the forwards right back through midfield, the back four, and the goalkeeper. The girls were determined not to be rolled over this time and started on the front foot, particularly during the first 20 minutes. Against the run of play, a long-range effort sailed into our net, leaving it 1-0 at half-time.
Playing against the wind in the second half, we dug deep and kept Breska at bay. A fantastic mazy run from Hailey down the left ended with a shot that was saved, but Rachel reacted quickest in the ensuing scramble to fire home a fully deserved equaliser. The celebrations said it all.
We continued to play some excellent football, but another long-range strike gave the home side the lead again. We pushed hard for a second equaliser but just fell short.
Overall, this was a tremendous performance. After losing by a big score last time, the girls truly made the club proud with this display, despite the 2–1 defeat. Choosing a Player of the Match was nearly impossible, as everyone was outstanding, but the nod goes to Zoe at left back, who was exceptional throughout.
Well done, girls, on a brilliant turnaround in just one month.

U13 Boys Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-3 Carrig Celtic
The U13 boys were unlucky to lose 3-2 at home to Carrig Celtic in Askeaton on Saturday morning. Carrig were the better team up to halftime when they led 3-1, but we were on the wrong end of two marginal calls on whether or not the ball had crossed the line for two of their goals. Eoghan Kelly got our goal from the spot after being brought down himself for the penalty. We regrouped at halftime and played much better in the second half, pulling a second goal back through Luke Mungovan. Oisin O’Connor made a few great saves to keep Carrig at bay and we continued to press but, despite a desperate goalmouth scramble at the Carrig end with the last play of the match, we just could not find the equaliser. The team can be proud of their efforts with us missing several of our regular players, and special thanks to the U12 boys who came along to help us out and each contributed enormously to the performance.

U15 Boys Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 1-0 Broadford Utd B
We welcomed Broadford to home turf on Saturday in front of a fantastic attendance, with both teams starting brightly from the opening whistle. The first half was evenly contested, with chances created at both ends, but strong defending and goalkeeping ensured neither side could break the deadlock, leaving the score 0-0 at half-time.
The decisive moment came in the second half when Hugh found the net with the only goal of the game, giving us a deserved lead. From there, the team showed great determination and composure, pushing hard for a second goal. We were unlucky not to add to our tally, hitting several near misses, but the single strike proved enough to seal the victory.
It was a tremendous team performance, with every player giving their all and contributing brilliantly on the pitch. The win keeps us firmly second in the table and builds valuable momentum as we move forward.
