U16 Boys Preliminary Cup Round 1
Rathkeale 1-3 Askeaton/Kilcornan (aet)
We had a great win in the cup, we were down some starting players so a big thanks to the players that stepped up from the U15 squad and made a huge impact on the result.
We settled into the game early and played the better soccer in the first half, our best chance came when Lorcan Blackwell had a great shot from well outside the box that hit the post, the game was heading for 0-0 at half time when we won a free kick outside the box, Darragh O’ Shaughnessy took the free kick, Eoin McNamara ran in to put pressure on the keeper for the bounce to take it into the net to go in 1-0 up.
The second half we again played the better soccer, we had a few chances to wrap up the game most noticeably Rian Kelly hitting the crossbar from a corner but Rathkeale equalized with 8 minutes to got to force extra time.
The lads dug deep in extra time and we were rewarded with 2 goals in 5 minutes both scored by Rian Kelly. We got some fresh legs on to close the game out and record a great win. The lads 1 to 14 were rewarded for their work rate and attitude so onto the next round of the cup.

Sunday 16th February

Weekly Observer Desmond Cup 1st Round
Glin Rovers 1-0 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC (aet)
The only goal of the game coming from a free in the last few minutes of extra time. Disappointing result for the lads but a great performance put in against a premier side.
