U14 Girls Div 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 1-0 Ballingarry A
Purtill Snatches the Winner in Tight Encounter
Our U14 girls hosted Ballingarry on Saturday and ran out 1–0 winners in a very tight, competitive game.
The first half was a cagey affair, with neither side creating many clear chances. Our defence was rock solid throughout, denying Ballingarry any serious shots on goal. Credit to Ballingarry as well, who also limited our girls’ opportunities. It remained 0–0 at half-time.
The second half saw a big improvement from our girls. Samantha Maune went close early on, shooting narrowly wide, and shortly after Cailín Purtill made space for herself but fired just over the crossbar. Ballingarry’s best chance came from a free kick on the edge of the box, which was also sent over the bar.
Midway through the second half came the decisive moment. Cailín Purtill chased what looked like a lost cause, managed to get a touch to force a save from the keeper, and reacted quickest to slot the rebound into the empty net.
The girls defended brilliantly for the remainder of the game, showing great determination and composure to see out the win. An excellent three points that keeps them firmly in the hunt near the top of the Division 1 table.
Well done girls — keep it up.

U13 Boys Div 2
St Itas 1-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan
The u13 boys team continued their recent run of good form away against St. Itas in the league on Saturday afternoon.
We were at it right from the start and had the better of the early exchanges before a fine strike from Eoghan Kelly put us ahead after about a quarter of an hour. This was closely followed by the second, a cool finish past the keeper from Harry Biggane, who was making a welcome return to the team after his recent injury. We introduced some fresh legs at halftime and kept our efforts levels high, and were eventually rewarded with our third goal, again from the boot of Eoghan Kelly. St. Itas pulled one back late on from the spot after a harsh penalty decision against us but, typical of our performance today, the team responded by scoring the fourth goal with almost the last play of the game when Kayden Delahunty got between the St. Itas defenders and goalkeeper to poke the ball home.
Despite the scoreline this was a difficult test against a determined St. Itas side who never stopped fighting, and credit must go to all of the players from front to back who worked tirelessly all game and hardly put a foot wrong.
Squad:
Oisín O’Connor, Conor Sheahan, Paddy Nealon, Luke Mungovan, Sean Anglim, Kayden Delahunty (1), Mike Mulvihill, Harry Biggane (1), Tommy Hennessy, Eoghan Kelly (2), Josh O’Donoghue, Laura O’Driscoll, Ruairi Flanagan, Gavin Anglim, Reon George, Mohammad Rana, Mya Kelly.
