U10 Girls Single
Ballingarry v Askeaton/Kilcornan
U10 girls had their first match of the season and with 7 players they put up a great performance against a strong Ballingarry side. They kept going to the final whistle and never gave up. Well done girls.
U13 Boys SFAI SUBWAY National Trophy Round 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-5 Shelbourne
Our U13 boys lost 5-2 against Shelbourne in the first round of the National Trophy. We started well but Shelbourne got a hold of the game after 10 minutes and were 3-0 by halftime. We regrouped and played much better second half, where we were on top for the first 20 minutes, pulling the score back to 3-2 and having one cleared off the line. It wasn’t to be our day though, and we were caught with two late goals while we pushed for the equaliser. Enormous credit to all the lads for their performance against a very strong Shelbourne side.
Players: Oisin O’Connor, Conor Sheahan, Luke Mungovan, Mike Mulvihill, Sean Anglim, Harry Bigane, Kayden Delahunty, Eoghan Kelly, Ruairi Flanagan, Josh O’Donoghue, Tommy Hennessy, Mya Kelly, Gavin Anglim.
Scorers: Kayden Delahunty, Eoghan Kelly
U12 Girls Div 1
Broadford Utd A v Askeaton/Kilcornan
It was a tough day at the office in tougher conditions on Saturday morning away to Broadford. After going a goal down early playing into a strong wind, we composed ourselves to get level again through good work in midfield and to be finished by Mia O’Shaughnessy. It was a good battle for the following 10 minutes, but then between a lack of concentration and a mix-up in defence, we found ourselves 2 goals down. Broadford finished the half much stronger than us and came in at half time 5-1 up.
A much improved 2nd half saw us create most of the chances, but with good goalkeeping and last ditch defending, we were kept at bay. Broadford, to their credit, deserved the win but a big shout out to our 14 players that braved the poor conditions and also to our big group of travelling support.

U14 Girls Div 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-3 NCW Town A
Our U14 girls lost 3-2 against a strong NCW on Saturday morning in Askeaton. We started against a strong breeze and fought hard, but NCW got the better of us, and at halftime, we were down 3-0. A teamtalk, some fresh legs, and positional changes to start the 2nd half. We were on top for the first 20 minutes, with Captain Samantha Maune scoring a super goal from open play, this gave the girls the lift they needed. 10 minutes later Cailìn Purtil was taken down inside the square. She stepped up to take her own penalty and slotted in the back of the net. With 5 minutes to go, the girls worked hard but just couldn’t get past the NCW defenders. A game of 2 halves, to be sure, the girls played a blinder in the 2nd half and were unlucky not to get the draw. Special mention to Laoise Daly in the full backline and Lydia Collopy in mid field.
Team: Mya Kelly, Laoise Daly, Sorcha Cregan, Zoey Hallinan, Allie Fitzsimons, Katie Ivess, Danielle Prendeville, Laura O Driscoll, Rachel Harty Maune, Samantha Maune, Cailìn Purtill, Lydia Collopy, Ellen Costello, Anneabelle Whelan.
U16 Girls Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 1-3 Abbeyfeale (HT 0-2)
A great crowd on Saturday afternoon were treated to a wonderful game of football. Of course, it’s disappointing to lose, but our girls played by far their best game yet. We changed our system completely, something totally new and by God, did they take it on board!
Two soft goals came against the run of play in a first half that we completely dominated. It just shows how funny sport can be. Wave after wave of attacks, but we just couldn’t get the goal we deserved, hitting the crossbar, the post, and forcing five brilliant saves from the Abbey keeper. Jessica and Hailey absolutely roasted their defence, but somehow the ball just wouldn’t go in.
Our defence grew stronger as the game went on, especially in the second half, breaking up play and feeding the midfield, who were like generals out there. Jessica finally got her reward, being brought down for a penalty. Up stepped joint Girl of the Match, Xixi, who coolly slotted it into the corner.
At 2–1 we pushed hard for the equaliser, but couldn’t quite find it, and Abbey made it 3–1 with the last kick of the game. With five minutes to go, we brought Jessica off so she could get the standing ovation she truly deserved.
Both Girls of the Match were outstanding — and honestly, you couldn’t fault anyone. Everyone gave it everything. Well done, girls!
Sunday 19th October
Premier Division
Glin Rovers 3-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
Kenneth O’Donoghue
We got off to the perfect start, just two minutes in, Cathal Downes was brought down in the box, earning us a penalty. Kenneth stepped up confidently and buried it, giving the lads a huge boost. They kept the momentum going and played some great football. However, just before the halfway mark, Glin found an equaliser.
The lads came out battling in the second half and created plenty of chances, but unfortunately, it was Glin who capitalised, scoring two more goals to claim the three points. Despite the result, it was a great team performance, with everyone putting in a tremendous shift.
Division Two
Askeaton/Kilcornan B 0-2 Shountrade
Shountrade struck once in each half to take all three points in todays fixture. Despite a strong effort from our lads, we couldn’t find the breakthrough needed to get back into the game. A disappointing result, but with plenty of matches still to come, there’s time to bounce back as the league campaign continues.
