Saturday 21st March

U7 Blitz
Super effort from our U7s on Saturday who played a series of games in a blitz with Newcastle West and Adare. The 10 that travelled meant we fielded 2 teams of 5 with each team playing 4 games overall. The boys played some great football in the sunshine and they didn’t stop running all day in that heat! Thanks to all the parents for their time on a Saturday and to Newcastlewest for hosting us.

U8 Boys
Granagh Utd v Askeaton/Kilcornan
Well done to the U8s who played Granagh. Great performance by all the boys with great teamwork on show

U10 Boys Dual 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan v Rathkeale
Great work from the U10 boys against Rathkeale in the lovely sunshine.
There were some really nice moments of play, with great teamwork and some well-taken goals from both sides.
Overall, a really enjoyable game.

U14 Boys Div 2
Carrig Cel 3-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Our U14s travelled to Carrig Celtic on Saturday and were beaten 3-1 by a strong side. We went 1 nil down but responded well to get ourselves back into the game. However, two more goals from the hosts put it beyond reach. Plenty still to play for, this season is far from over and we go again.

U16 Boys Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 0-0 Ballingarry

U13 Girls Div 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 4-1 Abbeyfeale
The U13s secured an excellent win over Abbeyfeale on Saturday, keeping their title hopes firmly alive. Cailin got things off to a perfect start, opening the scoring just three minutes in. Mia O’Shaughnessy doubled the lead after 14 minutes, finishing brilliantly from a superb through ball by Kate O’Driscoll.
Abbeyfeale responded with a goal of their own, but Cailin struck again on the 24th minute with a fantastic free kick from 20 yards out. She completed her hat-trick with 35 minutes on the clock, capping off a standout performance.
A huge congratulations to Michaela, who was outstanding in goal. Her awareness and quick reactions off the line were exceptional. Well done Michaela!

U15 Girls Cup Quarter Finals
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-2 Dromore Utd (AET)
(Penalties 3-1)
Our U15 girls welcomed Dromore to Askeaton on a beautiful sunny morning and, after a thrilling contest, ran out winners on penalties after the game finished 2-2 following extra time.
The game started as a tight affair, with both teams struggling to create clear chances. Our girls began to settle after about 20 minutes and started to look dangerous. Samantha Maune had the ball in the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside, and she was unlucky again shortly after when her free kick struck the post. However, it was Dromore who struck first late in the opening half, firing home from close range to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
The girls came out for the second half with great energy and were rewarded early on when Zoey Hallinan played a superb through ball to Rachel Harty Maune, who slotted past the Dromore keeper, despite the keeper getting fingertips to it.
Dromore regained the lead soon after with a well-worked goal, but our girls responded brilliantly once again. The ball broke to Hailey Ashton on the edge of the box, and she unleashed a bullet to the Dromore net to level the game at 2-2.
With no further goals in normal time, the game went to extra time. Both teams battled hard in search of a winner, but both defences stood firm, meaning penalties would decide this quarter-final.
Dromore stepped up first, but Samantha Maune, who had gone in goals at half-time, produced a brilliant save low to her left. Sam then calmly stepped up to convert Askeaton Kilcornan’s first penalty. Dromore scored their second, but Danielle Prendeville made no mistake with ours. Sam then came up big again with another excellent save from Dromore’s third penalty. Zoey Hallinan was next up and smashed her penalty home. Dromore then fired their next effort over the crossbar, sealing a 3-1 penalty shootout win for Askeaton Kilcornan.
An absolutely cracking game and a tough way for Dromore to go out — hard luck to them. Huge congratulations to our girls, who now progress to the U15 Desmond Cup semi-final.
