U13 Girls Div 1 League Play Off
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-2 Broadford Utd
(4-2 AET)
Last Monday evening, the U13 girls travelled to Killeaney to face Broadford in the league playoff, with both sides putting unbeaten records on the line to decide this year’s champions.
After the heartbreak of a narrow 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Friday night in the cup final, this talented group faced another huge test of character and determination, and they responded in style.
Broadford made the perfect start, finding the net with just 90 seconds on the clock. It was a sucker punch so early in the contest, but true to form, the girls refused to let it affect them. As the half progressed, every player stepped up to the challenge and gradually began to settle into the game.
Broadford’s defence was forced to work tirelessly as Cailin and Mia battled relentlessly in search of an equaliser. Their persistence paid off right on the stroke of half-time when Cailin broke through the Broadford defence to level the match at 1-1 heading into the break.
From the restart, it was clear the girls had put Friday’s disappointment behind them and were determined not to suffer the same fate again. Laura, who covered every blade of grass in a player-of-the-match display in midfield, drove the team forward as confidence continued to grow.
Broadford remained dangerous on the wings, but our defence was immense throughout. With us beginning to dominate possession and territory, the breakthrough arrived in the 49th minute when Mia O’Shaughnessy fired the girls into the lead.
As full-time approached, Broadford threw everything forward and, showing why they too are such a strong side, managed to snatch an equaliser right at the death to force extra time.
Once again, the girls regrouped brilliantly. As extra time unfolded, we looked the stronger side all over the pitch. Mya Kelly was outstanding once more between the posts, and her kick-outs proved crucial. A superb delivery from Mya found Mia O’Shaughnessy, who brilliantly flicked the ball over the Broadford defence before racing through herself to restore our lead in the 15th minute of extra time.
At that stage, we were firmly on top and there was still time for Cailin to do what she does best, grabbing her second goal of the game in the 80th minute to seal a memorable victory.
It was a performance built on resilience, grit, and determination as Askeaton/Kilcornan were crowned champions once again.
Dan, Seamus, and Pa would like to thank all the parents and supporters who travelled to Killeaney last night. We are incredibly proud of the character, heart, and determination shown by this fantastic group of girls.

U14 Girls Div 1
NCW Town A 1-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Oh SO CLOSE!!!!!
Our U14 girls headed to Newcastle West for their final league game, knowing nothing less than a win would keep their league title hopes alive — and oh boy, did they deliver.
The girls did everything they could, but unfortunately, even with the win, Breska managed to win their fixture 4-3 and finish top of the league. Our girls finish 2nd, just one point behind, and now qualify for the Shield Final against either NCW Town or Shannonside, who must play off to see who finishes 3rd.
To the game itself — the girls started well, creating chances early on, with Cailín latching onto a through ball and rifling a shot just over the crossbar.
But it was NCW Town who took the lead midway through the first half.
As always, the girls didn’t drop their heads and kept battling. Cailín again took on the NCW Town defence and got a shot away, only for it to skim past the post.
1-0 at half-time to NCW Town.
The second half started well, and you could really see our girls wanted to get back into the game. Our defence was well in control, and we were putting NCW under serious pressure, with loads of balls over the top — although the wind was just carrying a few of them a bit too far.
Midway through the second half, and desperately searching for an equaliser, Mia O’Shaughnessy was introduced, fresh off her two goals the night before in the U13 league playoff win.
It didn’t take her long to make her mark. Five minutes after coming on, she controlled a ball in the NCW box and fired a brilliant shot into the top corner.
Game on.
You could see the girls’ urgency — a quick celebration, then straight back ready to get the winner.
We were really putting NCW under pressure at this stage, and with about five minutes left to play, Laura O’Driscoll gambled into the box and poked home our second goal.
Unbelievable scenes.
We had one nervy moment at the end when NCW had a free kick, but the ever-reliable Mya Kelly made a fantastic save and we held out for the win.
What a fantastic season these girls have given us. So, so close to the top prize, but they now have a Shield Final to look forward to. We are all so proud of them.

U16 Boys Div 2
Ballingarry v Askeaton/Kilcornan
Our U16s were away to Ballingarry in our second last League match of the season. We started brightly and took an early lead through Tom Harty, who showed excellent footwork before finishing neatly into the bottom corner. Tom added his second shortly after to cap off a strong opening spell.
We continued to create chances, with Adam O’Driscoll unlucky not to score after meeting a cleared corner on the volley, his effort just drifting wide. Ballingarry responded with a few good opportunities of their own, but excellent defending from Donncha O’Gorman, Dylan Sheehan, Dion Harty and Mark O’Driscoll, along with some outstanding saves from Luca, kept them at bay.
Mark McDonagh added another before half time, and we started the second half strongly with Adam O’Driscoll finishing well after a great through ball from Eoin McNamara. Further goals from Eoin McNamara and Darragh O’Shaughnessy rounded off an excellent team performance.
We introduced a number of substitutes during the second half and all contributed really well. A very good overall display with every player playing their part.
We play Dromore on Monday in our final League game of the season before our Shield Final against Creeves on Thursday.
Squad: Luca Zoncada, Donncha O’Gorman, Mark O’Driscoll, Dylan Sheehan, Dion Harty, Adam O’Driscoll, Eoin McNamara, Darragh O’Shaughnessy, Mark McDonagh, Paudie Ryan, Tom Harty, Rory Moran, Tomas Moane, Billy Rimmer, Cian Sheehan, Callum Dalton.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to one of our own Tomas Lane on an incredible achievement. Tomas, who is on the coaching staff with AGF Aarhus, has helped guide the club to their first Danish league title in 40 years. AGF Aarhus will now be playing Champions League football next season. Well done Tomas!

Hard luck to our girls Mya Kelly, Laura O’Driscoll and Cailín Purtill and the Limerick Desmond U13 Interleague team who just came up short in the SFAI Interleague Cup Final against a very talented Galway side with the game finishing 2-1.
A huge achievement to reach an All-Ireland Final and everyone at the club is incredibly proud of Mya, Laura and Cailín on representing both club and league so brilliantly.
