Desmond Youths Cup Final
Rathkeale AFC 1-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
(0-0 HT)
Finn O’Gorman 48’ 74’
We capped off a memorable season with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Rathkeale AFC in the Desmond Youths Cup Final, thanks to a brace from Finn O’Gorman.
In a tightly contested first half, both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances. Rathkeale came closest to breaking the deadlock, rattling the crossbar in what was the best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes. The sides went in level at the break, locked at 0–0.
The game sprang to life early in the second half when Finn O’Gorman stepped up and scored from a well-taken free-kick in the 48th minute, giving us a vital lead. Just ten minutes later, changes were made to maintain the momentum, with Danny Murphy and Christopher Sheehy replacing Ben Fitzgerald and John Connors.
Rathkeale responded around the hour mark to level the score and set up a tense final half-hour.
However, Finn proved the difference once again, finding the net in the 74th minute to restore the lead and ultimately seal the win. Another substitution followed in the closing stages as Matthew Kehoe replaced Jamie Sheehan to inject fresh energy.
We held firm in the dying minutes to claim a deserved 2–1 victory and lift the Desmond Youths Cup — a fitting end to a fantastic season for the team.

(HT 5-0)
Thomas McCarthy 3’ 17’ 47’ (Assists Tomas Sheahan, Evan Costello, Ray Kelly)
Tomas Sheahan 14’ 29’ (Assist Sam Duggan)

We wasted no time asserting dominance, with Thomas McCarthy opening the scoring in the 3rd minute, powerfully heading home from a pinpoint cross by Tomas Sheahan. Just over 10 minutes later, Tomas doubled the lead after latching onto a lofted through ball from Sam Duggan, coolly finishing into the bottom corner.
Thomas added his second in the 17th minute, firing into the top corner after Evan Costello teed him up at the edge of the box. The relentless pressure continued, and in the 29th minute, Tomas grabbed his second with an audacious goal directly from a corner kick.
We weren’t done yet. In the 36th minute, Sam provided his second assist of the day, slipping a perfectly weighted through ball to Evan, who rounded the keeper and slotted home for a 5-0 lead at halftime.
The scoring wrapped up early in the second half when Ray Kelly’s effort was parried back into the danger area, and Thomas was quickest to react, completing his hat-trick in the 47th minute.
Changes followed, with Zach Birdthistle and Conor McNamara introduced in the 48th minute, replacing Ray Kelly and Tomas Sheahan.
A dominant, composed, and confident performance sees us march into the final four, full of momentum.
