Monday 20th April
U16 Girls Div 2
Creeves Celtic 3-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
We travelled to our neighbours Creeves on Monday evening, coming in on a high from our last two outings, but we fell short against a hungrier home side.
We were comfortable in the first half, but a fortunate rebound after a couple of missed chances to clear fell kindly to a Creeves player, who took her opportunity well. Shortly after, we had a strike on goal, but their keeper made a fine save.
In the second half, after about 20 minutes, we found ourselves 3-0 down. Niamh in goals was unlucky, making two great saves, but on both occasions the rebound off the post ended up in the net, the home side certainly had the luck, but they also made it by being the sharper team.
To our credit, we kept pushing, and Jessie scored the goal of the match, a powerful run followed by a rocket from 20 yards that nearly broke the net. We pushed for a second, but Creeves held firm to see out the win.
We tried hard but were off the pace today. Now we move on to our next match, away to Shountrade on Saturday.
U12 Girls Cup Semi Finals
Askeaton/Kilcornan 0-2 Broadford Utd A
In glorious sunshine our girls put up a brave battle to the very end and were unlucky that we came up against a keeper in excellent form and a team that’s unbeaten since the start of the season. We had our chances but were very unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions but cannot argue the result. Super proud of the effort from everyone there on the evening and now we regroup and try and get to a shield final. Well done girls.

U14 Girls Div 1
Ballingarry A 0-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
After a tough defeat to our neighbours Shannonside last Wednesday, our U14 girls travelled to Ballingarry and came away with a fully deserved 1-0 win. If there is one thing these girls do well, it is bounce back after a loss.
Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, the girls stood firm and defended brilliantly, giving the home team very few chances. Our best opportunity of the half fell to Rachel Harty Maune, who raced onto a through ball from Cailín Purtill, cut back inside, and got her shot away, only to be denied by a fine save from the Ballingarry keeper.
0-0 at half-time.
The girls started the second half strongly and pressed Ballingarry hard, keeping them pinned in for long spells. Lydia Collopy, who delivered a player-of-the-match performance in the middle of the park, showed great intensity by turning Ballingarry over time and time again.
Her drive and determination were rewarded 10 minutes into the second half when she closed down a Ballingarry defender on the right wing, won the ball back, and swung in a cross which Samantha Maune coolly finished to the net.
The girls held on for a superb 1-0 victory, defending bravely and hounding the Ballingarry players at every opportunity. While it was a fantastic overall team performance, other standout players on the evening were Laura O’Driscoll and Rachel Harty Maune, who never stopped running.
Well done girls. Back to the top of the league table with two games remaining. Keep it going.

Rathkeale 1-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
U14 Girls Show Grit in Late Comeback Draw.
Well done to the U14 girls who made the trip to Rathkeale on Saturday afternoon for their penultimate league game of the season and delivered a performance full of determination and character.
The home side opened the scoring in the first half, converting from the penalty spot to take an early lead. The game then took a difficult turn for our girls when star striker Cailín Purtill was forced off after landing awkwardly on her arm in the Rathkeale box. We wish her a speedy recovery.
Trailing at the break, the team regrouped brilliantly at half-time and came out with a renewed energy. The second half saw a dominant display, with the girls controlling possession and putting sustained pressure on the Rathkeale defence.
Their efforts were finally rewarded in dramatic fashion. With just three minutes remaining, Danielle delivered an excellent free kick from the right, and Allie Fitzsimons reacted quickest to get the vital touch and steer the ball past the Rathkeale goalkeeper to level the match at 1–1.
A deserved result and a testament to the grit and determination of this team, whose work rate and spirit can never be underestimated.

U16 Girls Div 2
Shountrade 4-0 Askeaton/Kilcornan
We fell short on Saturday against a very well-organised Shountrade side. In the intense heat, we found ourselves chasing the game too much and went into the break 3-0 down.
After a few positional changes and a quick water break, we came out much stronger in the second half and were probably the better team. We played some excellent football in the final third, breaking through a very solid defence, and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. The most pleasing aspect was how we improved as the game went on.
Aside from a late goal conceded, our second-half performance was very strong.
Now we move on to Monday night for the final game with this U16 team.
U13 Boys Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-1 St Itas
The U13 Boys team earned another hard-fought home win against St. Ita’s in the early kickoff in Kilcornan. Two close-range strikes from Josh O’Donoghue, one in each half, were enough to secure a valuable three points in the race for shield positions.
Credit to St. Ita’s who battled hard throughout, scored a fine equaliser before half time, and were always a threat on the break. We created some good chances too, particularly in the second half, and with a bit of luck could have scored a third.
The performance of both teams in the hot conditions were a credit to their clubs.
Squad:
Oisín O’Connor, Gavin Anglim, Conor Sheahan, Paddy Nealon, Luke Mungovan, Sean Anglim, Mike Mulvihill, Harry Biggane, Kayden Delahunty, Josh O’Donoghue (2), Eoghan Kelly, Mohammad Ibrahim, Tommy Hennessy, Reon George, Ruairi Flanagan.

Sunday 26th April

Cois Sionna Desmond Credit Union Premier Division
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC 1-1 Broadford Utd
37’ John McCarthy (Assist Tomas Sheahan)
We battled hard to earn a point against title-chasing Broadford Utd in an intense encounter on a bright Sunday morning.
With the visitors pushing to secure the league and us fighting to steer clear of relegation, the match had all the ingredients of a competitive contest, and it delivered from start to finish.
The first half was tightly contested, with both sides showing excellent defensive organisation while still creating a handful of chances. It was the home side who struck the decisive blow before the break. In the 37th minute, Tomas Sheahan delivered a dangerous free kick into the box, and John McCarthy reacted quickest to guide the ball into the net, giving us a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.
Broadford responded early in the second half, finding an equaliser just five minutes after the restart. From there, they pushed forward with intent, creating the majority of the chances as they searched for a winner.
However, we showed tremendous resilience. Our defence stood firm under sustained pressure, with every player contributing and leaving everything on the pitch. Their determination paid off as we held on to secure a valuable point.
In the end, it finished 1-1, a result that reflects both Broadford’s attacking persistence and our defensive resolve.
