U12 Girls

U12 Girls SFAI SUBWAY National Cup Round 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan v Castleisland AFC
We had a sunny morning in Askeaton with the pitch in great condition considering all the rain over the last few days. We kicked off playing into a stiff breeze with the sun at our backs for the first half. It was as impressive a start as you’re likely to see from any side this season, with relentless work rate, accurate passing, and clinical finishing putting us in a strong position early on. Kate and Mia both found the net, with Aoibhinn also going close but denied by some excellent defending.
Castleisland, to their credit, began to settle and grow into the game, making it a much more even contest. Mia added another before half time after great work from our midfield. Sophie in goals dealt confidently with everything that came her way, while our starting backs, Muireann, Zoe, and Lucy were solid throughout, with Dominie slotting in seamlessly when legs began to tire. The midfield trio of Kate, Evie, and Saoirse worked tirelessly, with Niamh also making a strong contribution when introduced.
Up front, Aoibhinn and Mia never gave the Castleisland defence a moment’s rest, and Gráinne was very unlucky not to score midway through the second half, denied twice by a combination of good defending and great goalkeeping. Our teamwork and passing kept us in control, especially as our opponents began to tire in the second half. Kate added two more goals late on after some great link-up play between midfield and forwards.
It was another brilliant performance and a well-deserved win for this super bunch of girls. Once again, a big thanks to the home crowd for their support, and to Castleisland for travelling in such great numbers and making it a competitive and enjoyable game.

U14 Girls SFAI SUBWAY National Cup Round 2
St Brendans Park 4-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Our U14 girls suffered a 4-2 defeat to an excellent St. Brendan’s Park side in the National Cup down in Tralee on Saturday.
In very windy conditions, we trailed 1-0 at half-time and were unlucky not to be level after two super efforts from Danielle Prendeville narrowly missed the target.
We started the second half brightly, putting pressure on straight away and were rewarded with a penalty, calmly converted by Cailín Purtill.
A ten-minute spell then saw St. Brendan’s take control, scoring three quickfire goals – two of which were outstanding long-range strikes. Credit to our girls, though — they refused to drop their heads, battled hard, and were rewarded when Cailín struck again with an absolute screamer to make it 4-2.
A quick stop at McDonald’s in Tralee on the way home soon had all the girls smiling again!
A big thank you to St. Brendan’s Park for their hospitality and the refreshments provided for players and parents after the game.
Well done to the girls on their effort and attitude. Back to league action next weekend!

Monday 27th October (Bank Holiday)

U14 Boys Div 2
Dromore Utd 5-1 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Dylan O’Connor
We travelled to Kildimo on the Bank Holiday Monday and, unfortunately, came away on the wrong side of a 5–1 scoreline, a result that didn’t really reflect how the game went.
It was 1–0 at half-time, and we conceded two quick goals after the break before Dylan O’Connor pulled one back for us. As we pushed forward to get back into it, we got caught twice on the counter.
Plenty of football left in the season, we’ll regroup and go again!
