Nenagh Celtic 1-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Mike Mulvihill
Eoghan Kelly
A performance to be proud of from the 12A boys (and girl!) team on Saturday morning, running out deserved 2-1 winners away to Nenagh Celtic in the second round of the National Cup. We were 1-0 down at halftime to the one shot on goal they had in the half, but our team kept their heads and played their football in the second half, and got their reward through goals from Mike Mulvihill and Eoghan Kelly to secure the win. The whole team was a credit to the club, and us coaches couldn’t be prouder of them.

NCW Town B 2-3 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Mark McDonagh
Darragh O’ Shaughnessy
Cillian Murphy
Our U16 team had a great win away v Newcastle West on Saturday. We had the bare minimum of 11 players due to injury and illness.
We had a good start and were playing well until we suddenly found ourselves 2-0 down within 5 minutes midway through the first half. The players kept at it and were rewarded when we got a goal back through Mark McDonagh to leave it 2-1 to NCW at the break.
After a well earned rest the players began the second half well and created a few half chances. Eventually our pressure paid off when we equalised with about 15 minutes to go with a great strike from a free kick by Darragh O’Shaughnessy. We continued to apply pressure and were unlucky when a great strike by Mark McDonagh was saved by the NCW keeper. We were nearly caught on the break but Cathal Daly made a great save.
It looked like we had got the winner when after great work by Cillian Murphy his shot just went wide.
It looked like we would have to settle for a draw but up stepped Cillian Murphy again to put a tremendous strike into the top corner on the stroke of full time to complete the comeback.
Well done to all the players for a tremendous performance.

Askeaton/Kilcornan 3-0 Abbeyfeale Utd
Gavin Rushe
Sam Costello
Jack Mulcahy
Our 16 team were in action again on Monday at home v Abbeyfeale following Saturdays dramatic win away to Newcastle West.
We welcomed back Luca Zoncada and Gavin Rushe who missed the last few matches through injury and illness. The match was fairly even for the first 20 minutes or so. We opened the scoring when a great ball over the top found Samuel Costello who got a touch on the ball before the defender caught Samuel’s trailing foot and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Gavin Rushe who tucked the ball to the bottom left corner. However, the referee ordered the penalty to be retaken following encroachment into the box by one of our players. This did not put Gavin off and he duly dispatched the ball into the same spot to put us 1-0 up which it remained until half time.
We introduced Rory Moran for Liam Hennessy at half time.
Abbeyfeale came out strong at the start of the second half but great defending by our back four of Nathan Dalton, Aaron Cregan, Danny Murphy and Mark McDonagh kept Abbeyfeale at bay and Luca dealt comfortably with any balls into the box. Midway through the second half we got our second goal through Samuel Costello. Our central midfield trio of Darragh O’Shaughnesy, Cillian Murphy put in a huge shift getting up and down the pitch.
We introduced Jack Mulcahy for Eoin McNamara and Jack scored our third and final goal with five minutes remaining.
An excellent team performance by all involved.
