Saturday 16th September

U12 Boys Division 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan A 1-1 Ballingarry A
Jason O’ Donnell
Great team effort by the whole squad and will only improve from here.

U16 Boys Division 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 1-2 Feenagh
Cillian Murphy
The away team scored twice in the opening 15 minutes which shell shocked the home team. Feenagh had the best of the game for most of the 1st half. The home team settled in the 2nd half and dominated the half. Despite hitting the crossbar twice and numerous other chances we only had a Cillian Murphy goal to show for our efforts. They’ll come on from this game.

Saturday 16th September
Weekly Observer Division 3 League Cup
Glantine B 0-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan B
(HT 0-1)
Paudie Ivess
Eamonn Lunn
Our Junior Bs travelled to Glantine on Saturday evening to play under lights. Big improvement from last weeks game with some extra lads available this week. A mixture of young players and experienced players worked very well. 20 minutes in Paudie Ivess had us up 1-0 and we held onto this lead until the half time whistle. Few substitutes made in the second half gave us fresh legs and we continued to dominate. Eamonn Lunn scored on the 87th minute to seal the win.

Sunday 17th September
McCarthy Insurance Group Munster Junior Cup
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC 2-2 Rathkeale AFC
(3-4 Pens)
Patrick Ivess
Sam Duggan
The home team started the strongest with midfield on top. We were rewarded when a defence splitting pass from Stephen Smith put Patrick Ivess clear and he finished confidently. We continued to dominate but an intercepted pass put Rathkeale in and their forward made no mistake. HT 1-1
Rathkeale came into the game in the 2nd half and started to control the game. On 70 minutes a cross was met acrobatically by the Rathkeale striker to give the home keeper no chance. Our heads didn’t drop and we continued to push forward. We were rewarded 5 minutes later when Sam Duggan finished into the top corner after he himself robbed the centre back. It was backs to the wall for the home team for the remainder of the game including 20 minutes of extra time. Some superb defending and goalkeeping kept us in the game. Rathkeale missed their first two penalties but we couldn’t take advantage.
Very encouraging performance from our lads proving we can mix it with the best.
