Tuesday 8th September

U14 Boys Div 2
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-3 Breska Rvs
Eoghan Kelly
Josh O’Donoghue
Our U14s unfortunately started their season with a 3-2 home defeat against Breska Rovers. After going behind early we levelled the game before halftime with a fine finish from Eoghan Kelly. We tried to push on in the second half but Breska were a constant threat up front with their pace and went ahead again against the run of play in the second half. Again we battled back to level the game with a goal from Josh O’Donoghue, but Breska caught us again before the end with another breakaway goal.
Plenty to work on in training, then we look forward to the next game.

Wednesday 9th September

U13 Boys Div 3
Askeaton/Kilcornan 0-4 Creeves Cel
What a performance from the U13s. With a few key players missing and some U12s playing with us for the first time we saw passion, energy, grit and determination. We lost 4-0 to Creeves but 3-0 at half time and we only let a sloppy goal in the last 10 minutes. Thanks to all the U12s and I can’t pick a player of the match because everyone deserves it. Well done.

U16 Girls Div 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 1-6 Broadford Utd A
Cailín Purtill

Saturday 12th September

U14 Girls Div 1
Ballingarry 0-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Our U14 girls travelled to Ballingarry for their second game of the season.
Playing on the astro didn’t phase the girls at all, as they settled quickly and dominated possession from the opening whistle. The girls played some lovely football throughout, with excellent passing and interplay from defence to attack.
Mia O’Shaughnessy opened the scoring after just 11 minutes, finishing off a great start from the girls.
Cailín Purtill was next on the scoresheet in the 18th minute after a fantastic run through the middle, using her strength brilliantly before calmly slotting the ball home.
Just 12 minutes later, Cailín added her second of the afternoon. A lovely pass from Allie Fitzsimons on the right wing found Cailín, who finished superbly to make it 3–0.
Aimee Quirke was unlucky not to add another shortly afterwards when her effort from outside the 18-yard box sailed just over the bar.
The second half didn’t have quite the same intensity as the first, but the girls continued to work hard and keep control of the game.
Kate O’Driscoll finished off the scoring in the 62nd minute. Her initial shot was blocked by the Ballingarry goalkeeper, but Kate followed up brilliantly to slot home and make it 4–0.
Two games, two wins! A fantastic start to the season. Well done, girls!
Player of the Match: Mia O’Shaughnessy
Mia never stopped working all afternoon and was absolutely deserving of the Player of the Match award. Well done, Mia!

U13 Boys Div 3
Askeaton/Kilcornan 2-3 Feenagh
Robbie Sheehan
Dylan Moloney
A narrow 3–2 defeat to Feenagh, but plenty of positives to take from the performance.
A defensive mistake early on gifted Feenagh the opening goal, but we responded well with Robbie Sheehan getting us back on level terms. Gavin Anglim then came agonisingly close to putting us ahead, rattling the crossbar with a brilliant strike just before half-time. 1–1 at the break.
We showed much more passion and intensity in the second half, but two quick goals put us on the back foot. We refused to give up, and Dylan Moloney’s goal sparked a strong comeback.
The final 10 minutes were intense as we pushed hard for an equaliser. We created chances and had some great efforts, but unfortunately couldn’t find the goal to get us over the line. Man of the Match: Ronan Duffy.

Munster Youths Cup 1st Round
Dromore Utd 5-0 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC

Division Two League Cup Group A
Glantine/Mountcollins Utd 3-3 Askeaton/Kilcornan B
23’ Matthew Kehoe (Assist Sam Harty)
30’ Rob Carrig
81’ Mark Murphy
We played out an entertaining 3-3 draw away to Glantine/Mountcollins Utd in the Division Two League Cup Group A on Saturday evening.
We took the lead in the 23rd minute when Matthew Kehoe finished from an assist by Sam Harty. Seven minutes later, we doubled our advantage as Rob Carrig found the net directly from a free kick.
The hosts responded just a minute later to reduce the deficit but the lads held firm to go into half-time 2-1 ahead.
Glantine/Mountcollins levelled in the 72nd minute, but our lads refused to give up. With less than ten minutes remaining Mark Murphy restored our lead with another superb free kick.
Unfortunately the home side found the equaliser they were searching for in injury time bringing the game to a dramatic conclusion at 3-3.
A battling performance from the lads, who showed tremendous determination right up to the final whistle.

Sunday 13th September

Premier Division League Cup Group B
Broadford United 6-3 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
23’ Cian Smith (Assist Darragh O’Shaughnessy)
32’ Sam Duggan (Assist Sean Whelan)
45+1’ Paul O’Shaughnessy (Assist John McCarthy)
We travelled to Broadford United with a small squad, with injuries and other commitments leaving us with limited options on the day.
Despite the reduced numbers the lads got off to an excellent start and raced into a 2-0 lead. Cian Smith opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after good work from Darragh O’Shaughnessy, before Sam Duggan doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute, with Sean Whelan providing the assist.
Broadford responded strongly and within the space of five minutes had levelled the game at 2-2. However, our lads regained the lead right on the stroke of half time with Paul O’Shaughnessy finding the net following an assist from John McCarthy.
With tired bodies beginning to take their toll in the second half and only two subs available Broadford took advantage and went on to score four further goals.
A special mention must go to our two U17 players Darragh O’Shaughnessy and Aaron Cregan who stepped up and fitted into the squad perfectly. Both lads were excellent and proved to be great assets to the team.
