Saturday 10th October
U15 Boys SFAI SUBWAY NATIONAL CUP ROUND 2
Avenue Utd v Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
Our U15 boys travelled to Ennis on Saturday for their National Cup clash against a very strong Avenue Utd side, with the hosts coming away with a convincing win.
U12 Girls Group E
Shannonside 3-5 Askeaton/Kilcornan
Another great win away to Shannonside in our 2nd of the season.
We took an early lead through Evie Harty-Maune but the home side fought back and led 3-1 before Sophie Ivess reduced the deficit just before halftime.
We controlled the second half and equalised through Saoirse Shanahan six minutes into the second half. Two further goals from Sophie Ivess to complete her hat trick rounded off a very enjoyable day for all the girls. All 12 girls were superb and played their part in full.
U13 Boys SFAI SUBWAY NATIONAL TROPHY ROUND 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan 3-0 Creeves Cel
The U13s produced a fantastic performance to secure a brilliant win in the National Trophy against Creeves, a team that had beaten us in recent meetings.
We got off to a great start, taking the lead when Gavin Anglim finished from a cross by Ronan Duffy. Mya Kelly was excellent in goal making crucial saves to keep us in front.
We doubled our lead when Ruairi Flanagan fired home a superb volley after Mike Mulvihill had struck the bar with a fantastic effort.
The team showed great character in the second half, keeping their heads defending with real determination and constantly threatening on the break as they pushed for more goals. We eventually sealed the victory when Mike Mulvihill volleyed home from another excellent cross by Ronan.
Every single player deserves huge credit for their attitude and resilience. After a difficult last season and a challenging start to this one, the team have continued to work hard, stick together and never let their heads drop. As a management team, we couldn’t be prouder of every one of them. Player of the Match was Luke Mungovan who was outstanding defensively and also pushing forward in the second half.
Limerick Desmond U19s Ladies Division Two
Kilmallock Utd 1-4 Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC
What a performance from the girls. Outstanding from back to front, with not a single fault to pick out. The work rate was immense, and the girls showed great determination, confidence and quality throughout the game.
We started strongly, creating chances with some excellent passing and movement. Lily Prendeville opened the scoring with a fantastic strike from the edge of the box, finishing off a great pass from Kate.
Kilmallock put our defence under pressure just before half-time, but credit to the girls for staying solid and working together to keep them out.
1-0 up at the break.
At half-time, we spoke about backing ourselves and having the confidence to shoot when the opportunity came. The girls took that message on board brilliantly.
Samantha found the net to make it 2–0, with a great assist from Lily Prendeville. Lily then decided one goal wasn’t enough, firing another fantastic effort from outside the box and finding the inside of the post for a brilliant finish.
Hailey rounded off the scoring with a superb strike from outside the box, assisted by Jess, to seal a fantastic 4–1 victory.
This was our first win as an U19 team, making it a huge moment for the club. So proud of the effort, teamwork and commitment shown by every single girl.
Player of the match was Lily Prendeville
who showed pure class in midfield. A great start to the season for the team.
