U14 Boys SFAI SUBWAY NATIONAL CUP ROUND 1
Aisling Annacotty v Askeaton/Kilcornan
The u14 boys lost against Aisling Annacotty A in the first round of the national cup on Saturday. Despite being in defensive mode for the majority of the game, the lads put in a very determined and gritty performance and never let their heads drop, ensuring that the opposition had to work hard for their win. Undoubtedly man of the match was Oisín O’Connor in goals, who made some fantastic saves in both halves and deserved all the praise he received from both teams after the game.
U16 Boys SFAI SUBWAY NATIONAL CUP ROUND 1
Dromore Utd 6-2 Askeaton/Kilcornan
A difficult first half saw us go into the break 5–0 down with the game looking well beyond us. However the lads showed great character in the second half and came back out with a completely different attitude.
We battled hard, created chances and managed to get two goals back showing plenty of fight and determination. We also had the chance to reduce the deficit further from the penalty spot, but unfortunately the effort came back off the post.
U12 Boys Div 4
Askeaton/Kilcornan Bulls 3-2 Breska Rvs B
A fantastic 3-2 win in a very even and well-matched game against Breska.
We started brightly and took the lead through Elliot Kelly, making it 1-0. Breska responded with an equaliser before half-time in what was a very even first half.
We made a lot of changes at the break and introduced fresh legs which helped us start the second half strongly. Fiachra Shanahan got his first of the game to put us 2-1 ahead.
Breska kept pushing and found their equaliser with around ten minutes remaining to make it 2-2. However, just a minute later Fiachra struck again to grab his second and edge the win for us.
A brilliant well-matched game from start to finish and a fantastic performance from all the boys. Everyone got plenty of playing time and contributed to what was a great team effort.
U15 Girls Div 1
Askeaton/Kilcornan v Shountrade (WO to Askeaton/Kilcornan)
Sunday 20th September
McCarthy Insurance Group MFA Cup 2nd Rd
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC 1-3 Abbeyfeale Utd
15’ Paul O’Shaughnessy (assist Sam Duggan)
A disappointing result as we fell to a 3-1 defeat against Abbeyfeale.
We started brightly and had three great chances inside the opening ten minutes but unfortunately couldn’t find the breakthrough. Our pressure finally paid off after 15 minutes when Paul O’Shaughnessy found the net to put us ahead.
We continued to compete well but Abbeyfeale found an equaliser just before the break to leave the sides level at half-time.
The visitors then took the lead in the 72nd minute, leaving us with plenty of work to do. We pushed forward and tried everything to find the equaliser and force the game into extra time, but despite our efforts Abbeyfeale sealed the victory with a third goal in injury time.
A frustrating result which didn’t lack effort but unfortunately lacked quality from our lads.
